Queers and Friends BDSM Play Party
At Sindulgences
This party is for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered and transvestites only. It is both a social and a play party. Verifiable members-in-good-standing of SVL, PB, the Exiles, SOJ and Odyssey are welcome to come without first attending a Breakfast with Cat. Snacks provided. The usual rules apply. All activities are voluntary and consensual. Barrier protected is provided and required. Refreshment donation: $20. Contact Cat at cat@sindulgences.com for PayPal and PO Box information.

Sindulgences is making a special offer to Sacramento Valley Leather Corps (SVL) members who come to the Queers and Friends BDSM party at Sindulgences on Saturday, March 31. As you know, we plan to host four of these parties a year (every time there are five Saturdays in a month), and the refreshment donation for this party is $20.

The offer is that if you're a member of SVL, you get a discount for each additional Queers and Friends party you attend this year. For example, it's the full donation this time. The next one you come to is $15, the next is $10, the next is $5, then back to $20 again next March. And the best part is, if you aren't already a member of SVL, you can join at the party and qualify immediately for this offer.

If you aren't familiar with SVL, you should check out their site at www. svlclub.org. Their mission is to present an accurate portrayal of the Leather BDSM communities. They promote safer sex education, share knowledge of leather/BDSM and other fetishes, mentor people who are new to the leather/BDSM scene, foster a comfortable atmosphere for socializing among like minded people, and host fundraising and support for local nonprofit organizations that show a commitment to the Sacramento Valley GLBT community and the HIV/AIDS community. Plus they have a lot of fun.

Contact me if you have questions about this offer, would like to RSVP for the party or need information about paying by PayPal or our PO Box. Please RSVP (with donation) by midnight on Friday, March 30. Thank you for your support of both Sindulgences and SVL.

Here is a repost from the culture jamming tribe. I just did it and everything seems to work according to the posting.

Jhayne Holmes says this:

What with the Washington State Supreme Court handing down its anti-gay-marriage decision several weeks ago and the ever-hearing more about attacks on reproductive rights down south, I’m feeling that the States is tripping a bit too merrily down the Handmaid’s path.

This week, I found a way to strike back.

Focus on the Family, the horrid anti-gay evangelical church based in Colorado Springs that wields too much power for anyone’s good, has a store on their website that will give you books, CDs, and DVDs absolutely free of charge. Usually people pay for their items by donation, raising millions of dollars to help Focus on the Family produce more hate-propaganda featuring “experts” on homosexuality who claim it’s a curable “sickness”. (They’re practically defined by their book A Parent’s Guide to Preventing Homosexuality. Course, there’s no mention of having less kids, which is the only proven method. No, no, you shouldn’t use birth control, that would be wrong. They need more worshippers, how dare you prevent god’s will.)

It’s a little bit time-consuming, but not enough to deter me. (Nor should it you). The chance to take money out of their pockets is too useful, not to mention satisfying.

Here’s how to do it in 10 steps:

1. Go to www.family.org and look for the “Resources” link in the blue bar on the left-hand side, right above the “Search” box, and click it.

2. Under the “Resource Category” menu on the left-hand side, you’ll notice categories such as “Homosexuality” under “Resource Category.” Me, I went straight to the CD’s and DVD’s under “Resource Format.”

3. Go through, find something you like, such as the recently released movie, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or The Chronicles of Narnia Radio Theatre Complete Set, suggested donation US $79.00, or the three disc Les Misérables soundtrack. It’s not a very wide range of products, but there’s bound to be something either you like or you could use as a sweet gift for someone else. Click the “Add to Cart” button.

They won’t send more than $100 worth of materials for free in any given shopping trip, so be sure to go through a few times, until you’re sure you’ve dinged them.

4. Select “Add New Shipping Address,” decide to send it yourself or someone else, and once you’re done picking up to $100, click “Proceed to Checkout.” Some people have been sending items to themselves to sell later on eBay, some have been ordering the more controversial items as conversation pieces or educational props, (as anti-anti-propaganda), but I plan on using mine as gifts, mostly. I’ve found no reports on receiving Focus on the Family junk mail after inputting an address, so I figure it’s fairly safe.

5. The next screen asks you to sign-up for an account and give your information. Fill it out with fictitious information, enter whatever name and address you like. You might want to make up a phone number too and an e-mail account too. After filling out all the required fields, click “Proceed to Checkout” one more time.

6. This will take you to the “Here is Your Cart” page. You may have to re-enter your data again after this part to actually confirm your account. Eventually, you’ll get to the “How Much Would You Like to Donate?” page.

7. Select “Enter other total amount” and enter 0.00 as the amount you would like to pay. (Don’t put in a dollar sign or it will ask you for credit-card information.) Don’t be fooled by the field in the lower-right-hand corner that shows you the suggested donation amounts, simply Proceed to Checkout.

8. The next screen is a guilt screen, to make you feel bad about how little you donated. ignore it. Ignore it utterly. Think of how many people they’re persecuted and had in their “gay kids can be cured” camps. Just proceed to checkout again.

9. Click “Checkout Now.”

10. Finally, pass this information on to all your friends. They’ve got money to back them, we have word of mouth, let’s see if we can win.

"Our policies should aim to strengthen families, not undermine them," Bush said in a speech. "And changing the definition of marriage would undermine the family structure." - GW Bush

Would someone please explain to me where he gets this idea of family and his definition of marriage? Please...anyone, I want to know. Give me the definition of family and marriage. Seriously.

Dictionary.com defines "family" as:

a.)A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children.

b.)Two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another, and reside usually in the same dwelling place.

c.)All the members of a household under one roof.

d.)A group of persons sharing common ancestry. See Usage Note at collective noun.

e.)Lineage, especially distinguished lineage.

f.)A locally independent organized crime unit, as of the Cosa Nostra.

g.)A group of like things; a class.

h.)A group of individuals derived from a common stock: the family of human beings.

Dictionary.com defines "marriage" as:

1.
a.)The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.

b.)The state of being married; wedlock.

c.)A common-law marriage.

d.)A union between two persons having the customary but usually not the legal force of marriage: a same-sex marriage.

2. A wedding.
3. A close union: “the most successful marriage of beauty and blood in mainstream comics” (Lloyd Rose).

Would someone kick Bush in the nuts for me please? Even Cheney and Bush's wife aren't agreeing with the amendment. What does that tell you? And oh, by the way. The amendment they want to add to the constitution is only slightly illegal because already in the Constitution it states that all states must uphold contracts formed in other states. Ladies, gentlemen and everything in between...guess what marriage is...? Yeah, that's right. A contract. And I know that every church in my area is going to have signs up about how they should vote for this amendment to pass. Who wants to go sit in front of bayside church with me this sunday and protest?

Transgender person sues, alleging job harassment
By Herbert A. Sample -- Bee San Francisco Bureau

Published 2:15 am PDT Tuesday, April 4, 2006
Story appeared on Page A3 of The Bee

Setting It Straight: On Page A3 Tuesday, a story about a transgender person who is suing her employer, engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff, referred to the firm in subsequent references as Parsons. That was intended as shorthand for Parsons Brinckerhoff and was not meant to refer to another engineering company, Parsons Corp.

SAN FRANCISCO - In what may be the first legal action of its kind in California, a Cameron Park transgender person is alleging that co-workers and supervisors harassed her and tried to force her out of her job after she switched genders.

In an interview Monday, Danielle Ryan described the hostile work environment that she claims developed at the South Natomas office of the international engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff. A computer technology specialist, Ryan said incidents began 15 months ago, after she announced that she considered herself a woman and would start wearing women's clothing to work.

Ryan, 44, contends that for much of last year, co-workers bumped into her or made derogatory comments. She said she was eventually told by company officials that she could either work three more months and then leave the company, or work part time at a reduced wage.

"It was obvious they were pushing me out the door, while the environment was very hostile," Ryan said. "I would complain, numerous times ... and nothing would ever be done."

Judy Cooper, a New York-based spokeswoman for Parsons, said the firm had not yet been served with legal papers and therefore could not comment.

Ryan's lawsuit is based on a 2003 statute that amended the California Fair Employment and Housing Act to prohibit job discrimination on the basis of gender or perceived gender.

Several lawsuits by transgender people alleging they've been denied new jobs have been filed since the state statute was enacted, said Chris Daly, director of the Transgender Law Center in San Francisco. But Ryan may be the first California plaintiff to have transitioned to another gender while employed at the same job, said Daly, whose group is not involved in Ryan's lawsuit.

Ryan said that for much of her life, she was a male who sensed she really wanted to be a female.

"That's what felt natural," said Ryan, who was flanked by her lawyer, Waukeen McCoy, and her girlfriend. "That's what I gravitated toward."

In 1999, about four years after she began working at Parsons, she began hormonal treatments, she said. In January 2005, she told her supervisor that she would henceforth wear women's clothing to work.

Ryan said that the supervisor then requested she remain home, but asked her to return to work a few days later. Company officials held a staff meeting to inform Ryan's co-workers and provide them guidance on how to avoid harassment, she said.

Nonetheless, Ryan said, the workplace conditions worsened.

"You constantly heard ... epithets," she said. "People would come into the office and see me as a female and (co-workers) would very strongly say, 'he.' "

"There was one employee that asked to see my breasts," Ryan added. "It just gradually got worse. (It was) pretty much a constant harassment, a hostile work environment."

Ryan said the harassment she received was similar to what she saw directed at female employees in prior years. "I would see women get discriminated against constantly," she said.

Eventually, a supervisor told her she could work for only three more months or accept a part-time position with less pay, Ryan said. She said she took the part-time job because she had bills to pay. After she had suffered migraines for months, Ryan's doctor told her last December to take a stress leave.

Meanwhile, she filed a complaint with the state Department of Fair Housing and Employment, which issued her a "right to sue" letter. Last week, after first negotiating with Parsons, Ryan filed suit in Sacramento Superior Court against the company and several employees.

Ryan has not had a sex change operation and said she has not decided if she will. The term "transgender" encompasses different categories, including people who have undergone hormonal treatment and/or surgery to switch genders.

The legal ground for employment discrimination claims by transgender people is increasingly favorable, Daly said. Six other states have laws similar to California's. Recent rulings by federal judges have opened the way to federal lawsuits as well, he added.

A few companies have quietly instituted measures to head off discrimination against transgender persons, but the topic has not been adequately tackled by most employers, Daly said.

1:00 PM SM Groups & Law Enforcement: Group Issues
It is important that SM-Leather-Fetish groups understand the relationship between the SM community and law enforcement authorities, as well as the numerous legalities that can affect group functions. Once this is accomplished, groups can dispel myths, educate members, and constructively interact with law enforcement as the need arises. This presentation will focus on three aspects: (1) interacting with local law enforcement, (2) avoiding legal trouble, and (3) group considerations.
1:00 PM The Alleged Domestic Violence Call
It is important for SM-Leather-Fetish practitioners to understand law enforcement and the numerous legal issues that can affect us -- specifically the response to an alleged domestic violence call. Once this is accomplished, you can constructively interact with law enforcement officers if the need arises. This presentation will focus on two aspects: (1) constructively dealing with officers, and (2) avoiding legal trouble. This workshop does not deal with the "cycle of abuse" or actual domestic violence; instead it is about consensual SM being misinterpreted as domestic violence by law enforcement.
2:30 PM Zoning for SM & Swing Groups and Businesses
Zoning and permit issues are commonly used by local governments to attack the businesses or parties of SM and swing groups. It is much more difficult for police, prosecutors and courts to prosecute crimes such as indecent exposure, lewd conduct, etc. Therefore zoning and permit violations are used to either move or shut down SM or swing activities because these administrative issues appear to be unambiguous and nondiscriminatory. It is important for our communities to have an understanding of these administrative issues in order to safely organize and maintain SM, fetish, and swing events. Zoning and permits vary greatly depending on jurisdiction, so this discussion identifies and addresses the common issues in an overview fashion and suggests how to address the particulars.
2:30 PM Traveling With Toys
While there have always been security issues involved in travel, the current political climate, as well as new legislation, has changed the procedures used to achieve security, as well as changing the allowable items to be carried with the traveler. Security measures have been heightened as never before -- to the point of creating a legal risk to individuals who practice alternative sexual expression for traveling with items that are commonplace for us. This presentation will address these issues and provide tips for traveling with toys.
4:00 PM Protecting Yourself Legally
Members of the SM/leather/fetish communities have always had some level of concern regarding the issues of privacy, discretion, and personal security. The Radical Right, employers, ex-partners, and others may pose threats to these concepts. Many times their motivation comes from ignorance, but new motivations like custody of children, and revenge are also becoming commonplace. This presentation provides tips for protecting yourself legally for various circumstances.
4:00 PM Life & Death Issues for the Alternative Community
This presentation assists those who practice alternative sexual expression in understanding more about the legal issues involving their relationships. People who are involved in dedicated relationships outside of the traditional "heterosexual-marriage-with-children" often acquire property and incur liabilities together. Yet many fail to realize that these relationships will eventually end; either from separation, or as a result of death or disability. This presentation addresses some of the issues and problems that might be encountered, and gives guidance on how to prepare for them.
SYNOPSIS
Tethered to the netherworld of ghosts, muses, and dreams, a poet transforms
his lament over the tragic death and loss of his friend and fellow artist into an
epic work of literature. In 1908 Rainer Maria Rilke wrote his "Requiem For a Friend"
over two dream-filled nights at the Hotel Biron in Paris. A hundred years later an
experimental theatre group in Berkeley California prepares to stage his “Requiem”
as an avante garde performance ritual. Time dissolves as impressions of the
contemporary era begin haunting Rilke's night dreams and consequently,
inspiring the creative processes of writing his tribute to artist Paula Becker, who
unexpectedly died eighteen days after birthing her first child. Part bio-pic and
narrative fiction, “The Greater Circulation” is a cinematic treatment of Rilke’s
powerful prose addressing the central drama of all women who feel torn
between sacrificing their lives to their Art or to Motherhood.

I bought my rainbow stuff there. I was ecstatic to find fiction about women who had the hots for each other, non fiction struggles of coming out, magazine images of same sex couples....

This bill would effectively eliminate marriage as a legal institution, and bind EVERYONE to the concept of civil union. People would still be able to marry in accordance with the mandates of their individual church. The only difference is that it would not impact their legal rights unless they also obtained a civil union through the government. That would open up individual churches to be able to marry whom ever they choose, and not be legally forced into the marriage of couples they believe would go against their religion. Also, it would free up the churches who WANT to marry same-sex couples to be able to do so. This is a bill that I think would be good for everyone involved, even though the religious right might not be too happy about losing their control over governmentally recognized unions, freedom would be maintained for EVERYONE.
chance. Send essays, news items, fiction, or film

Apparently, I was following bad instructions... After changing that setting, I no longer had access to the "msconfig" run feature, or the "regedit" run feature. Also, the "explorer.exe" process does not load up anymore, I am unable to see ANY files in my Windows folder, no icons appear on my deskto, and my start menu bar is not there... The only way I can access ANY of my files is through the browse feature of the "New Task" item under the file menu in Task Manager...

What I need to know: Is there ANY way at all that I can change the permission settings for "Users" in Windows XP without having any access to the "msconfig" run command, and without having a desktop or start menu? If there is no way to change that, then will using the Fix OS feature on the Windows XP OS software disk fix the issue?

Hi, you all!? Please help us spread the word!

The Speakers Bureau is training new speakers! The next training for the SB begins on :

Wednesdays - April 13 and 20 5pm - 8pm

We welcome members of the LGBTI community and our allies to join the Speakers Bureau and help the campus become more informed about our lives, our need for equal rights, and the issues that impact us daily. Being on the Speakers Bureau is an empowering experience for panelists and is a great way of contributing to the strength and pride of our community.

Those who are interested must attend both training nights and must register in advance. After the training, the speakers then are ready to conduct panel presentations to classes, residence halls, and other campus organizations and departments. Our purpose is to increase the campus'
awareness and education about lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender and intersex individuals.

No previous experience is necessary. At the training you will receive a manual and all the information you need to be prepared to present on a panel.? Please bring paper/pencil/pen to take notes; refreshments will be provided.

To register for the training or for more information, contact the trainers, Catrina Wagner at clwagner@ucdavis.edu or Laurie Stillman at lestillman@ucdavis.edu.

Don't miss this opportunity - be an active contributor to creating a safe and inclusive community for all of us.
Friends,

PLEASE read this message! On Valentine's Day, the Campaign for
California Families is waging an attack on our community. The message below
is what is being sent to their extensive email lists:
___________________________________________________________
CALIFORNIA MARRIAGE RALLIES
Feb. 14 in Sacramento

Stand up for the sacred institution of marriage for a man and a woman
with other Californians. Join hundreds of other pro-family citizens at
rallies to protect marriage, Saturday, Feb. 5 in Madera and on
Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

Come to support protecting marriage in the California State
Constitution and to oppose AB 19, the "homosexual marriage licenses" bill
introduced by the Democrats in the California State Legislature.

Bring positive signs saying:

Marriage is for a man and a woman
Protect the vote of the people
Respect my vote for marriage
1 man + 1 woman = marriage
Protect natural marriage
Respect Proposition 22, the people's vote
__________________________________________________________

We MUST counter this attack on our community! These hate-filled people
have chosen to use Valentine's Day, a day of celebration of love, to
claim that our love is not as meaningful or important as theirs. YOU CAN
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Come to the marriage license board (8th and F street) at noon on
Valentine's Day to celebrate the one year anniversary of marriages in San
Francisco and to show the hateful groups that they will not win this
fight! With this new information about their rally, please join us in our
event and BRING FRIENDS, FAMILY, CHILDREN--we want lots of people there!

Thank you for standing with me in this fight...we can make a difference
together.

In marriage,

People, IMMEDIATELY contact both your Democratic House Representatives AND Democratic Senators. Do NOT delay!!! We might even have a SLIGHT chance of getting them to stand up this time in the Senate and actually sign the necessary paperwork to refuse certifying the election results and launching an investigation of massive voter fraud by Bush & Co. to rig the election and steal it from the rightful winner. We CANNOT pass up this opportunity!

I am reaching out in every direction possible on this one. And maybe you can't help, but know someone who can, I am just hoping to reach someone who can save the lveis of these dogs.

I was out walking my dog a few nights ago when two stray pit bulls came up to us. They are very friendly, so I took them home to figure out what to do with them. Unfortunately, my dog is very small and only has three legs, so she could not hold her own with them, therefore, I could not keep them until i found a home for them.

They are a VERY VERY VERY friendly pair of male pit bulls. Cropped Ears, but their tails are not docked, they have full wagging tails - and they wag them often and profusely! VERY VERY friendly. The smaller dog is a golden brown with a white chest and white paw tips. The larger dog is a black and brown brindle with white around the nose and on the paw tips. These dogs are VERY FRIENDLY! They stayed together and obviously get along very well. Found in Natomas, off San Juan and Bridgeford.

As of Thursday, August 26, 2004, they were taken to the Sacramento City Shelter. They have 5 days there unless claimed or adopted before they will be put to sleep. Even if these are not your dogs, but you are interested in adopting a very friendly Pit Bull, please contact the Sacramento City Shelter about these guys picked up on Rio Loma Way.
I have pictures of them online, you can see them here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v209/drchickon/2%20Pits%20Bulls/

Please save these guys!!!!

Marriage Equality California (MECA) of Sacramento and Equality California (EQCA) invite you to join us on Thursday, August 12, 2004, the day that the California Supreme Court rules on whether Mayor Newsom had the authority to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.

We plan to meet on Thursday, August 12, at the Lambda Center (20th and L) at 7pm. We will rally with speakers and hold a candlelight vigil as we walk to the Supreme Court Building downtown (9th and Capitol Mall).
